G-D boys’ track head coach Angus McDonald, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Crusaders, was kind enough to answer these questions regarding his team’s upcoming season:
Last season’s record: 2-3
Postseason results: Evan Lexo was runner up in the all-state meet and New England meet (in 100m). 4x100m team (Evan Lexo, Lucas Acaba, Nate Danti, John Thorburn) made it to all states
Key contributors lost: Andre Safontchick, Gregory Preston, Daniel Kessler, Mike Gingras
Captains: Evan Lexo, Lucas Acaba, John Thorburn, Luke Costello, Nate Danti
Returning starters: Evan Lexo, Lucas Acaba, John Thorburn, Nate Danti, Nick Odell, Ben Hauk, Luke Costello
Other key players: newcomers Jordan Dorff, Patrick O’Malley, Brendan Meyers, Tristan Naboicheck, Riley Patten, Ethan Axon
Last year’s stats for top returning players: Evan is the returning league champ, district champ, all-state runner up, and New England runner up (in 100m).
Team strengths: Our sprinting is our strongest area. We have 4 or 5 great guys who can place in every meet
Areas that need improvement: Our field is up and coming, but our newcomers should fill in any gaps
Team goals: Have a winning record in the league and bring more guys to districts than we have since I’ve been here.
Overall impression of the team/other comments: This should be a good year for us. We have a solid core group of guys, a bunch of good newcomers, and a whole bunch of young guys who will only get better as the year goes on.
